Taylor + Wes Are Getting Married

I was introduced to Taylor and Wes through a mutual friend and client (Hi, Emily!). Have I ever told you how much I LOVE referrals?! Referrals are literally how we keep the lights on over here at Bright & Gray Creative. To date, we have not done traditional advertising (aside from a few boosted socials here and there). Y O U are how we gain new clients, and Jason and I could not be more grateful.

I digress…

Taylor and Wes are getting married — REALLY SOON! Taylor reached out to me about getting engagement photos done in February, and I was so excited to be able to make it happen. They had already had some engagement photos taken, but wanted a few more recent photos before their big day. Seriously, they’re my kind of people.

We met up at the Ross Bridge Historical Park, which is one of my favorite locations for all of the amazing textures in such a small area. We started our session up on the trail and them moved down to be able to get a few photos in front of the historical bridge, on the wooden bridge over the creek, and in the field.

Taylor + Wes Engagement Gallery

Here’s a real moment of transparency — I was nervous.

Emily, our mutual friend who had referred Taylor and Wes, had her family photos taken in this exact location. But her family photos were taken in the morning and in the Fall, so they’re radiant with oranges and yellows and bursts of sun coming through (truly, a highlight session for me). But, Taylor and Wes were going to be there in February in the late afternoon, and I was worried that their photos would not meet their expectations because of the differences in lighting due to the time of day and time of year.

BUT, as any photographer will attest to, each photo session makes me better. Each moment I spend with clients is a chance to grow as a photographer. So while our date and time was pretty much opposite from Emily’s, I’m 6 months farther into my photography career! So, I watched the light at our session location for a few days beforehand, and I’m happy to report that Taylor and Wes’s session was a literal dream! Even though it was different, the lighting was truly amazing. These two are so in love and it shows in every single photo. They were so fun to work with and I’m so happy for them to become husband and wife so, so soon!

A few takeaways from this incredible session:

  1. If you want photos, get photos! Book that session. Who cares if you’ve already photos taken recently?! People change, kids grow, seasons create different natural backdrops — so book the session and let’s make memories!

  2. If you book a photo session with me, I’m coming prepared. When you book photos with Bright & Gray Creative, we’re watching the weather, the lighting, and the location days in advance. If we’re going to be inside a location we haven’t been to before, we’re sending a questionnaire and asking for iPhone photos of the space so we know what kind of lighting we need to bring with us. I may get nervous sometimes, but my nerves propel me to be prepared.

  3. Photo sessions should be FUN! I had a blast with Taylor and Wes, and I hope they enjoyed spending time with me too. When you book with BGC, we’re going to laugh, and chat, and leave as friends (if we weren’t already). I’m going to send you tips on how you can be prepared for your session — from wardrobe to smiles! If you leave feeling stressed out, I haven’t done my job. This is something I’ve had to learn (my apologies to some of my earlier clients!) — but my biggest goal in a photo session is to put my clients at ease and make this a fun experience for everyone.
